Purpose-re-purpose

Purpose Re-purpose, Logan Art Gallery, 2019.

The exhibition offered a journey between two galleries, interconnecting the rooms by placing a range of art objects linked by colour and line.

In Gallery One, Kantha paintings on canvas took agency, forming folds instead of being framed back and held onto the walls. Dolls transformed into individual other beings sitting comfortably in a polycultural domestic space, with a rug on which school children sat. A shrine-like area but with a washing line, my mother's cotton saree pleated in folds and a vibrant community of undefinable beings looked back.

In the Young People's space, altered artist books were placed on furniture and open shelves, not constrained by the glass. A bookshelf with books to leaf through, a maker's section and clothes for dress up's invited young adults to engage with art playfully and inclusively.

Artis talks in the galleries and workshops in the Workshop space offered a chance to unpack and disseminate my ways of making and sharing with the community. The workshops were attended by adults and children from Woodridge State High School.
